WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Organizations that support crime victims are raising concerns after allegations that Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers manipulated crime statistics.

Lindsey Silverberg, executive director of Volare, a nonprofit that helps victims of crime access services and resources, said her organization has firsthand experience with crime classifications they believed were inaccurate. They say the alleged misclassifications made it harder for victims to access resources and may have allowed suspects to avoid accountability.
