Trauma-Informed Storytelling
This page is a part of the Volare and WATER FOR ELEPHANTS partnership.
Storytelling is a powerful way to create a cultural shift in our society and uplift voices that are often marginalized and silenced. Storytelling can also be a way that survivors decide to engage in their own path to healing and justice. When those stories are stories of trauma and violence, there are some considerations to take. These stories are important and, as always, we want to ensure we are not causing further harm.
Sexual Violence Prevention IS Suicide Prevention
At Volare we talk a lot about building trauma-informed communities that provide resources and support for survivors. When we have resources in place, education on how to best support folks, and are actively working to dismantle oppressive systems that allow sexual violence to occur, we are also engaging in suicide prevention.
