Appeals Clinic for DC Survivors

This clinic is for survivors of abuse who want information about how to appeal a final trial court order or how to defend against an appeal of a trial court order in the District of Columbia. Information can also be provided to survivors who are preparing for trial and want to understand what is needed to be able to appeal an order in the future if applicable.

We can answer appeal-related questions from survivors on family law and civil protection order cases as well as some other types of cases, too. The only types of cases we cannot help with are criminal and juvenile delinquency matters.*

You will schedule an appointment in advance for a free and confidential one-on-one phone call with an appeals clinic attorney. During the call, the attorney can:

■     Potential risks and benefits

■     Possible next steps

○     For survivors preparing for trial, explain the steps needed to ‘make the record’ in order to be able to appeal an unjust outcome.
