This Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, My Body Is Taking Center Stage
So when I PR in my barbell squats, when I run for hours and feel strong, when I feel my core burn as I do a headstand, when I land the splits, when I reach the summit of a hike, when I walk with the sun on my face - it is the biggest antidote. Because they all truly do the opposite for me - I have to connect to my body in those moments, I have to witness what it can do. I have to feel it. THE PRIVILEGE!

Resources for LGBTQ+ Survivors
Members of the LGBTQ+ community are more likely to experience risk factors for sexual assault, abuse, and violence. One of the best ways to celebrate pride as a member of the queer community or be a better ally to the community is by supporting its most vulnerable members. Below are resources on how to practice community care by supporting survivors in the LGBTQ+ community.
Medical Forensic Exams
The first few moments after a sexual assault can be a very difficult and confusing time. You may have questions and be faced with multiple decisions. During this time you may not want, or be ready, to make many of these decisions. This is common and okay.
The Identity Theft Assistance Program (ITAP)
Since its founding, Volare has opened its door to survivors of all crime types, including those impacted by identity theft, fraud, and financial exploitation. Through the years, it became increasingly apparent that 1) there exists an intersection between violent crime and identity theft and 2) victims of non-violent crimes have too few resources in the District to assist in recovery. The Identity Theft Assistance Project at Volare is working to address these gaps.
